When Families Are Left Behind — A Voice from the Heart

by | Aug 19, 2025 | Blog | 0 comments

Families Fighting for Justice is one of the dedicated providers that supports those who come through the doors of The HUB. Their experience, strength, and determination help us provide compassionate and meaningful support to families affected by homicide and culpable road death.

Led by Jean Taylor — a mother who knows the devastating impact of losing a loved one to violence — Families Fighting for Justice gives a voice to those who often feel unheard, overlooked, and left behind.

In one of their latest blog posts, Jean shares her personal reflection on the painful imbalance many families face when navigating the justice system. Her words are a stark reminder that while systems protect the rights of offenders, the voices of the victims’ families are too often silenced.

She writes powerfully about the injustice of false claims being treated as fact, the emotional toll of feeling ignored, and the need for families to be given the same respect and protection as anyone else involved in the justice process.

“Families like mine live every day with a pain that never fades, a sentence that never ends,” Jean writes. Her post is a call for honesty, fairness, and a place at the table for those left to carry the weight of unimaginable loss.

We invite you to read Jean’s full piece, titled “When Families Are Overlooked”, on the Families Fighting for Justice website. It’s a moving and important read for anyone who wants to understand why The HUB exists — and why our support must always centre the needs of victims’ families.
